VERY ELABORATE SILVER MOUNTED GERMAN DOUBLE RIFLE

By 'Victor Funk' which is inlaid in gold on the rib of the bbls. One of the fanciest guns I've ever encountered: The light grained fancy walnut stock is elaborately checkered and carved in floral scroll style featuring a gargoyle appearing character with eyes on the forend as well as a stag deer scene on the side of the buttstock just behind the cheekpiece, The carved patch box cover is the head of a Trollish looking guy with heavy eyebrows, a large nose, showing his teeth with his tongue sticking out, pressing the tongue in releases the latch to open it. Reminds me of a relative. Overall gun is absolutely superb with silver mounted ramrod retaining rings, a large elaborate silver triggerguard as well as buttplate, the hammers done in relief, look like serpant heads with gold eyes and other gold inlays. The very ornate and delicately done lock plates have frizzen springs as a flintlock would have but instead of a frizzen they are steel nickel guards that go over percussion cap to protect it from a misfire. The gun is almost too elaborate for words with gold inlaid animals such as a hog in a scene on one of the lock plates and a deer on the other with the lock plates and upper tang having taken on a smokey satin appearance numerous gold and silver inlays on the bbls, bores are of approximately 64 caliber and have two different types of rifling: one is a 15 groove nearly straight type and the other is a more octagonal 8 groove spiral type. Bbls measure approximately 32", Exc+ cond overall with nearly all the original somewhat toning brown remaining. Beautiful gun.
