DELUXE ENGRAVED DOUBLE CASED SET OF TIFFANY GRIPPED COLT 1860 ARMY’S
Fantastic set of guns fitted in an original French style lined casing with maroon velvet & green velvet trim; rosewood exterior. Includes silver plated flask, mould, cleaning rod handles, ivory lid pulls & ivory handled screwdrivers. This set very closely mirrors another set of deluxe engraved French cased Tiffany gripped Army's-this set is in the 164,XXX range; the other set, which is in the Smithsonian & pictured in Wilson's 'Steel Canvas' & 'Samuel Colt Presents' books, is in the 156,XXX range. Both sets have identical battle scene Tiffany cast style grips. The original silver plated frames, barrels & Tiffany grips have turned a very dark silver patina coloration. The rammers, cylinders & hammers have been upgraded, I believe, to match the set in the Smithsonian, with elaborate engraving on the rammers as well as the American Eagle motif on the cylinders which appear to be fresh re-gold gilt. Still a fantastic set of guns with this very minor upgrade having been done. Beautifully cased and very decorative.
