One of 1,500 assembled at the Springfield Armory. This one was one of 100 shipped to the Portsmouth, NH Navy Yard on Dec. 27, 1879 per Springfield Research Letter. VG bore with some corrosion at the midway area, smooth clean metal turned a plum blue brown patina, correct inspection markings include the 'U.S.' and anchor on the barrel. The usual cracks are present in the area of the cartridge cut off switch and near the rear of the frame-otherwise the wood is VG+; missing the ramrod but sling and stacking rings are present.
