(MR511-14-611) WESTLEY RICHARDS 8 BORE DOUBLE RIFLE

Marked on top of the bbl is: 'Special Bullet & Shot Gun 8 Gauge Special Steel, Westley Richards'. This is a best quality boxlock gun featuring four panels of very elaborate game scene engraving on the frame. The bbls have a half rib, a 3-leaf engraved sight at the back, the typical tip up English style front sight and the front half of the rib is engraved. Pistol grip cheekpiece stock is in exc cond with most orig varnish, measuring 14" to the end of a red recoil pad, sharp checkering. Overall gun is in VG+ cond with 98% of the orig bbl blue remaining, the case colored receiver has quite a bit of case color remaining with a small area of pin prick pitting of rust on the right hand side; other than that, it's very nice overall. Complete with a half dozen of the orig loaded cases for the gun which are 4-1/2 long with a 1,200 grain bullet. The gun weighs 15 pounds! Should be a good varmint rifle. Complete with letter of Provenance from Westley Richards with details of the gun and that it was made for S. Jackwad who I understand was a famous African hunter. ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e

'G.W. Morris, Patent 1856' marked on top of the bbl. Overall gun is in very fine cond for a 1st Model retaining probably 30-40% orig blue starting to turn a plummish color in various spots, VG shootable bore-bright and shiny with a few very light scattered pits. Orig 28" full octagon bbl, full length magazine tube, orig sights. Orig wood is in VG cond with a few small mars and dings and a very good small repair at the front of the stock right where it meets the receiver; there's been a small piece inserted-very nicely done. 500 serial number range and has the very scarce 1st Model style wedge type forend cap retaining pin. Features a 26" half octagon bbl with half length magazine tube, orig sights, mint bore. Orig wood is in exc+ cond with nearly all orig varnish-just a few light handling dings; complete with orig shotgun style buttplate. Overall gun is in superb cond retaining 97-98% vivid, glossy receiver blue; just some very minor flaking. Bbl has some slight toning toward the muzzle end and some very minor pin prickling of rust. Approximately 40 Caliber. 28" half octagon bbl, full length magazine, orig sights, orig pistol grip uncheckered deluxe wood is in generally good cond with a chip out of the toe. Overall metal has turned a plum aged brown patina coloration. The action does not work properly. Engraving features a bear and various scroll motifs on one side and a raccoon on the other side, sparsely engraved but very well done. This is the only Bullard I know of that's been engraved by Nimschke.

Marked 'Zeller-Paderborn'. Appears to be a 9.5 x 47R Caliber. This is a very finely done German stalking rifle featuring delicate vine and scroll engraving on the receiver, 29" full octagon bbl with a key adjustable Windage front sight, typical buckhorn rear sight and a nicely made replacement tang sight. One piece walnut stock is in exc cond with sharp checkering, cheekpiece, sling swivels. Double set triggers, elaborately done Schuetzen style triggerguard, fine bore. Overall gun is in very nice cond with 75% orig blue which is toning and starting to turn slightly brown. receiver retains case colors in the protected areas which are turning a dark nickelly coloration. Accompanying this unique item are half a dozen brass projectiles that were shot out of the barrel. Marked "W Hanau IN GERA". Very nicely done little gun. 13-1/2" bbl to the breech which opens with a fancy engraved forward facing side lever. The breech area, upper and lower tangs, triggerguard and buttplate are also scroll engraved. Metal is a pleasing soft gray patina coloration. Fancy stock has a schnabel forend, checkered wrist and fancy carved cheekpiece. Delicate rigid sights, bore is approximately 7MM. Most orig lacquer remains on deluxe grade walnut. e

(MR383-13-494) RUSSIAN MOSIN NAGANT M-91/30 RIFLE

The M-91/30 was an improved version of their 1891 infantry rifle and went into service in 1930. It is extremely rugged, durable and simple-intended to be instantly usable by illiterate and unskilled troops. The 91/30 was the main battle rifle during WWII and used for many years after by many satellite communist countries. The sniper version of this gun was made famous by the movie "Enemy At The Gates" In apparently unissued condition after arsenal refurbish. Great shape. Import markings, comes with orig long spike bayonet and ramrod. e

Their long barrel general issue 91/30”s were found to be unsuitable for close quarter fighting such as in Stalingrad where there was plenty of house to house fighting. Similar to their M-38, the new variation M-44 was ideal with its 20" bbl and ingenious side folding bayonet. Arsenal refinished, VG overall condition; some flaking of stain and varnish on wood. Has original folding bayonet and ramrod. e

Original wood shows a fair amout of use with some mars, dings and a very slight loss of wood to the horned Schnabel forearm; there’s a couple of chips out of it toward the front about 1/8” wide x ¾” long. Overall metal is an aged plum brown patina coloration with good markings, no pits. Covering this gun is a U.S. Dept of Indian Affairs approval seal authorizing the sale of this confiscated item. I’ve seen these before but don’t know much about it. Nice, clean specimen of a very scarce little Single Shot rifle. Interesting gun. e

Original sights, dark bore-definitely needs a good cleaning. Original wood has the usual light rack dings and mars but is in excellent condition with no splits or cracks. Somebody took the liberty of very delicately cutting out the cartouche markings. Metal has traces of case colors, the balance turned dark and traces of blue with the balance turned a dark brown, excellent cartouche. Nice, clean, all original gun except where mentioned. e
