FACTORY ENGRAVED 1895 MARLIN TAKE DOWN RIFLE

Item # JM305 -20-337

FACTORY ENGRAVED 1895 MARLIN TAKE DOWN RIFLE This is one of the most elaborately engraved Marlins I have seen in years. No. 15 pattern featuring a large animal scene on one side with an elk being attacked by wolves. One is airborn and one has the elks leg. Lots of action in the scene. The other side is quite unique with a mountain lion attacking a deer. On the bottom is a bighorn sheep. Gun is trimmed out with numerous gold inlays and platinum inlays on bbl as well as the frame and the take down, lever, around the screws and on the hammer. G-style carving on the fancy burl wood in excellent condition with about 75-80% original varnish. Shotgun style buttplate. 26" full oct bbl and full length mag tube. Cal 45-90 with fine bore. Original sights include correct blade front sight, Marlin buckhorn rear sight and thick-base folding Lyman tang sight. Overall gun is in fine condition with traces of case color on receiver and the balance turning a nickel color. Considerable amount of original blue remains on the bbl. Beautifully engraved Marlin! Finer than most I have encountered. Excellent inside and out and would be hard to improve upon.

Item # JM1185-19-362

Caliber 32-20. Orig 24" half octagon bbl, half length magazine tube, orig 'C' pattern factory checkered stocks are in exc cond with a considerable amount of orig varnish remaining; shotgun style buttplate. This gun is engraved in factory pattern #3 that features two deer in an oval on the left hand side and very delicately scroll engraved on the other side. Very interesting, unusual gun-very rarely encountered with a full blue finish. Generally they're case hardened where this one has a blued finish with nickel trim on the buttplate, lever and hammer. Take down frame, very nice shootable bore. All orig with most the finish remaining, orig sights include folding tang. A lengthy description on the top of the bbl refers to Carl G. Winter, Grand Worthy President of The Fraternal Order of Eagles on his visit to the Marlin firearms factory on November 26, 1917. The Official Fraternal Order of Eagle Website confirms that he was in charge in 1917. Great little gun; exc+ inside and out.
