LINDSAY YOUNG AMERICA 2 SHOT POCKET PISTOL

Item # MHG510

LINDSAY YOUNG AMERICA 2 SHOT POCKET PISTOL Marking on the side is " Lindsay Young America Manufactured by J P Lindsay N Y". A very unique, rare and odd pocket pistol. It has a fluted bbl. Cal 41. Serial number 536. A rather strange concept. This is a dual hammer dual percussion with single bbl. The idea was that 2 complete charges were loaded in superposed fashion. (1 on top of the other) The trigger would discharge the hammer for the first load the farthest out. When the trigger was pulled again the second hammer would discharge the final round. It goes to show that just about everything was tried in building firearms! This gun is in exceptional condition with a bbl scene of a lion, eagle and just about everything else under the sun. The brass frame is scroll engraved. All metal is nice, smooth and clean. The grips on this old gun, which would pre date the Civil War, are exceptional. No chips and very nice. If you are looking for something different and cool, this is the gun!

Pistol is mounted inside a purse. The gun is pictured on page 159 of the book "Firearms Curiosa" by Lewis Winant. This is a very interesting item. It is truly a coin purse. One side opens by a lever and inside is a small pin fire 5-shot revolver. Only the muzzle is visible at the end of the purse. Purse measures 2-1/2 by 3-1/2". It has a brass frame design. On one side of the purse is the original velour lining and the other side is missing the lining with only the inside brass coin purse visible.
