PAIR OF ARTILLERY COLT SINGLE ACTION REVOLVERS
Item # C545 & C543-19-383
5-3/4" bbls. One is serial number 4391 and the other is 4184. These guns were issued to the Second Cavalry unit that was stationed in Texas and then transferred to the Wyoming/Montana Territory to the Rose Bud Indian Reservation, arriving about a week after Custer's massacre. These guns undoubtedly were there to help bury the dead and clean up the mess. Not easy to get rid of 300 bodies in 90 degree heat. Fantastic pair of guns retaining about 95% bbl and cylinder blue. Refinish would have been done in the Rock Island Arsenal. They have the correct scrambled numbers. Original wood grips are in excellent condition with correct cartouche. Both guns have numerous inspector marks as well as the US marking on the side of the frame. About 25-30% correct case colors on receivers. The actions are both excellent. Fine bores. Guns compliment each other very well. Quite an article on them on page 238 in the Colt Cavalry Artillery Revolver Continuing Study by Kopec and Fenn. Beautiful pair of guns with a lot of History!
