(5-893) AMERICAN MOUNTED ARTILLERY OFFICERS SABER

30” curved blade, 12” blued and gilted panel with broad leafy terminal, engraved with floral patterns and single panoply featuring a Phrygian cap and Federal shield. Gilted brass stirrup hilt with simple guard and ferrule with central roped band flanked by fluting. Birdshead pommel, bone carved grip. Black leather scabbard is very sound with brass parts and gold gilting still intact. Overall sword is in excellent condition with 90% bright blue and gilt decoration. Hilt and scabbard mounts retain 90% gilt finish; grip with vertical crack on one side but still sound and solid. Beautiful blade in fine condition. Very well done. ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e

(7-1131) VERY UNUSUAL PROMOTIONAL CASE BROTHERS KNIFE

(6-1275) U.S. MODEL 1860 STAFF OFFICERS SWORD

With a narrow 30” blade of diamond section; marked ‘Made in Germany’. Brass hilt of standard form, leather & wire wrapped grip, nickel plated scabbard. Blade is an aged patina coloration, scabbard retains 50% orig nickel finish-the balance having flaked off. The wire wrapping on the handle is somewhat loose but still sound & not apt to come apart. Not a bad looking outfit. e

31¾” blade marked ‘Ames Manufacturing Co. Chicopee, Massachusetts-U.S.-FHC 1863’. Excellent condition with a nice patina to the brass handle, sharp blade; missing the scabbard. e

26” blade; complete with scabbard. Overall VG+ condition with a wire wrapped handle. Leather scabbard is in fine condition with a nice patina, brass has turned a nice pleasing patina coloration, excellent leather. Blade is in VG+ condition with just a few areas of light tarnish; excellent brass hilt. Very clean little item; seems to be harder to find these all the time. All original. e

(6-1272) AMERICAN MILITIA STAFF OFFICERS SWORD

Circa 1850. Straight 31” blade etched with florals, panoplies above a panel inscribed ‘W.H. Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia’. Gilted brass hilt comprising mameluke-form crossguard with acorn finials, cast with scroll work of low relief, two strand chain guard, ivory grip incised with simple shell panels, banding & feathered panels flanking the languets. Brass scabbard engraved with banding & panoply, suspension mounts cast with leafage & fitted with 3 rings. Reversed scabbard affixed with copper plaque inscribed ‘Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia’. Retains 90%+ gold gilt overall, old grip repair-sound & solid, traces finish on scabbard with a very slight dent in the middle. Pre WWII. 30” single edge fluted blade-bright steel etched with floral scroll & Marine Corps insignia; ‘U.S. Marines’ within the cartouche. Six pointed star on right hand side with ‘S.N.C.O.A.’ and ‘43-89’ markings. Left side marked ‘Stainless’ and ‘G.M.S.’. Cast & gilted hilt, pierced scroll motifs. Leather covered wood grips with twisted brass wire wrapping. Metal lined leather scabbard with a brass mounting at the tip. Overall fine condition with a nice deep patina to the brass, blade is exc+. e

(M5-162) BOWIE KNIFE BY MARSH BROTHERS AND COMPANY, SHEFFIELD

Circa 1870. Has a spear pointed blade, 6¾” long by 1” wide, an iron boat shaped guard and staghorn scales secured with three rivets. The knife is 10½” long overall and has the makers name stamped on the ricasso and ‘Hunters Companion’ engraved on the flat of the blade. This knife is in poor cond and was found in an abandoned boat. Circa 1865-1920. Has a spear pointed blade 6½” long by 1¼” wide bone scales secured by four rivets and mounted with a brass escutcheon. ‘Flag Knife’ is stamped on the flat of the blade and the makers name is stamped on the ricasso. The knife is 10½” long overall, lacks its guard but is complete with its solid leather sheath. Described and pictured in Ken Burton’s Bowie Book. e
