Correct upper tang markings, frame has turned silvery with a couple of spots of pin prick pitting. The usual frame markings are absent. The right side of the forearm bears the ‘FCW’ cartouche. The barrel is the correct .50 Caliber and correct length. The flip-up ladder rear sight is not the same as usually found. Barrel has a serial number which does not match the frame and retains 70% blue which looks like an arsenal finish-balance turning. Carbine buttstock is larger than normal. (12-427) PAIR OF FACTORY ENGRAVED PERCUSSION .44 CALIBER REMINGTON REVOLVERS

Fitted with original relief carved Goddess of Liberty ivory grips in absolutely superb condition with ‘Ribus Unem’ inscribed on the base of each figure. This is probably the finest pair of factory engraved Remington Percussion revolvers known. Beautifully and elaborately engraved with numerous different styles of ornate treatment featuring leaf, floral and vine scrolls on the barrel and cylinder as well as numerous pointed stars on the cylinder. Both superb with 60-70% original silver finish remaining on the frames, barrels and cylinders. The hammer and rammer retain a considerable amount of gold gilting in the protected areas. These guns are alleged to have been presented to General Richard I. Dodge and are pictured in Charlie Worman’s ‘Firearms of the American West’ book. Manufactured in approximately 1863, serial number’s are ‘5’ & ‘226’. Interesting, as Remington very rarely made any sense whatsoever with their serial numbering. Beautiful little guns out of my own collection.
