(12-209) HARD TO FIND WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 IN .32-20

VG bore, metal possibly lightly cleaned and refinished a long, long time ago. Barrel marking is a bit faint, original serial number is unreadable and another number has been applied. Corners are fairly sharp, some rust is on a small area of the barrel; otherwise the metal is basically smooth and is a very dark blue brown patina coloration, original sights. VG wood with a couple of cracks present in the forearm. Overall, this is a very decent example. e

(13-267) INTERESTING WINCHESTER 1873 1ST MODEL RIFLE

Excellent bore and near excellent overall. Full octagon barrel retains 75% blue-; the balance is turning a plum blue patina coloration, magazine tube has excellent blue in protected upper area, the balance turned a dark plum blue, 90% receiver blue on left side, 70% receiver blue on right, the balance is turning. Considerable dimming case colors on hammer and lever, original sights, crescent buttplate. Fine walnut with most original varnish remaining. Interesting gun in that the frame was originally intended for a carbine: staple holes plugged and finished as a rifle. This is verified on Cody Research Form. Gordon’s 1873 survey lists a few others with this alteration in 20,XXX serial number range. Fine gun. ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e

(6-1) WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 "ONE OF ONE THOUSAND" RIFLE.

Very fine, well documented, all original Model 1873 rifle. This gun was located at the time of the Universal Picture search for the 1 of 1,000 rifles that were made and later made tribute by the movie, ‘Winchester Model 1873’ starring Jimmy Stewart. At that time, the gun was owned by T.R. Jordan. The search took place in approximately 1950 and it was in his possession from then up until some time in the mid-70’s when it was acquired by a very knowledgeable and respected collector from upper Michigan State. The gun comes complete with a Factory Letter stating it’s 26” full oct barrel, full magazine, gold gilted Beaches front, correct Winchester Buckhorn rear and folding tang sights. Original wood is listed as fancy 2X grade with rifle style buttplate and is complete with original cleaning rod in the butt. This is the only one ever made with 2X uncheckered wood which exhibits intense grain right up through the wrist area which is quite unusual. Overall metal is excellent with sharp corners, fine markings, mostly a plummish blue brown patina coloration; no pits or signs of abuse, crisp action, fine bore. Hard to improve upon this little gun without having to get up around $175,000-$200,000 on today’s market. These 1 of 1,000’s have been very much in demand. ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e
